Living Oversea.
How do you feel when living in a country that people do not speak your language? Is it like you are in a foreign movie with no subtitle? Luckily English is the medium used language right now. But in some countries, people do not necessarily speak and listen well to English.
Doing business in a foreign country is challenging not only because you will have to try to understand their English but also you sometimes have to face the situation that you are not sure what is going on with their strange reaction to you. Something that is considered nice and acceptable in one country can be overly polite in another country. Something that is considered normal in one country might be considered rude in another country. A short meeting in such a country where it has a different norm from in your country can be frustrating and make you confused what they are thinking about you and your products.
Smiling in Thailand can have a variety of meanings or have no meaning at all. The best way to deal with this situation is to open your mind or just leave it the way it is. However, if you want to know how they feel about you, getting to know Thai friends is one of the ways. Even that, people are different even among Thais. Business people, young graduates or office workers: people are different depending on their background, role and environment.
If you are not lucky enough to have a Thai friend who is familiar with difficult issues when dealing with Thais, you just have to leave your mind open. Only patience, patience and patience can help you overcome everything.
